My Rebuttal:
This is why those who make the laws cannot govern the one's who break them. What is my point, that as Aristotelian logic dictates. One must be open to self formulated rules in order to freely conduct themselves in any society. If you disagree with that premise (of the previous sentence) is why communism doesn't work. My argument precedes what Hitchens is saying: that corruption that is created through political ends. Also, means that - civilization in a communist run totalitarian (status). The governing regime of that state obviously abuses power because of the idea of communism is essentially a open educated model. That if we governed based on providence for all people equally, we would have no problem as equals in any bordered civilization. Communism is seen as a threat to those that can not govern for the people. Communism has been bastardized as result. Historically, communism does work in Eastern Soviet totalitarian models. But Eastern ancient philosophy such as Chinese rule, it works.

Why communism is appraised as failure (debunked)
True power does not come from enforcing the law. It comes from creating a society where every citizen is a criminal by default. When the legal code becomes so vast and contradictory that it is impossible to live a normal life without violating it, the state achieves total leverage. You are no longer innocent until proven guilty; you are guilty but not yet prosecuted.
Christopher Hitchens understood this mechanism better than most. A journalist and public intellectual who spent his life exposing the machinery of authoritarianism, Hitchens was a man who famously refused to be silenced, even as he faced terminal illness in his final years. He saw that the trap of the modern era is not just the iron fist, but the bureaucratic maze that makes compliance a physical impossibility.
The essential principle of totalitarianism is the making of laws which are impossible to obey.
Hitchens reminds us that once everyone is an offender, the authorities can pick and choose their targets based on political convenience rather than justice. Selective enforcement is the ultimate tool of the tyrant.
