Music

 May 5th 2025

I do understand what is Dylan gets at.
I am not per se a musician - however - I do consider myself as an Avant Garde in my pursuit of philosophy, my own literature, and presenting romantic ideas poetically and within reason as a whole.
Therefore, to say one thing in being musically inclined as opposite (not to be) musically inclined if at all - are both 2 totally distinct and separate things.
I have always been a benefactor of the music I listen to. On a philosophical level, music itself can be not only uplifting but ultimately inspiring to me. This follows what I disagree with Dylan on. That if I am not a musician. If I am not a musician does not disqualify me from being deeper if on some meager pragmatic level of it.
Dylan is accurate - he says you take flight with music because it is an immediate source of cause. His main contradiction to prove this was pointing to painting as a form of calculation. I think it is an ingenious way to qualify himself as a musician, however, I also do not find agreement with him here.
I think what is depth on a human level serves as meaningful. At the very least what we are as artists, comes to an understanding between variables in real life as to our inner lives. (i.e. inner purpose) In my summation what we do as artists is on cue with transcending how we feel in the same situations we present as form. Form is art - what is art? Art is in its form a medium from which we act. And because all art is subjective - I think Dylan embarks on a soft stereotype of how all art is up for interpretation. But not just the idea that music plays a role that other artists cannot 'come' into focus. I think any medium requires depth if it is to make you think. And if all art does is make you think, than the same drink (if we use a cocktail as metaphor) will never be stirred if only criticized for lack of substance. This follows that the more critical the examination through observation - art in itself is less than what an artist becomes through his or her work. What this means is - the purpose of art is lesser served when the observer has been over critical (not seeing what is the artist has conveyed.) As mentioned, all art is - is subjective. And all subjectivity is - relates only if interpreted in its proper form. So if we think about music as being automatic on a surface level - it can still be serving the opposite meaning that was intended. Only the artist knows what depth the art brings to his or her self in spirit.
“Being a musician means - depending on how far you go - getting to the depths of where you are at. And most any musician would try anything to get to those depths, because playing music is an immediate thing - as opposed to putting paint on a canvas, which is a calculated thing. Your spirit flies when you are playing music. So, with music, you tend to look deeper and deeper inside yourself to find the music.” – Bob Dylan
