it's not that pride should be so unimportant, people go through enough trouble trying to (a) bring you down - or - (b) bring out the worst in you. I've only ever experienced my loss of pride, due to another persons failure at it, most days. Today is one ('and counting') of those days. I truly rather not wake up.
